NHS surgeon Dr Karan Rajan explained that while foods can increase GLP-1 activity for a short time, only lab-made ozempic has the real and lasting impact on weight loss. Ozempic and wegovy have been trending as weight loss drugs lately, and this has led many influencers to share their natural alternatives to the weight loss drug on YouTube. But is there in fact such a thing as natural ozempic? On Instagram, Dr Karan Rajan, an NHS surgeon and health contributor, recently posted about it. No food can emulate what a weight loss drug can do, said a doctor. The natural ozempic Under the post shared by Dr Karan several slides where he discussed the new trend of natural ozempic were published. According to the NHS surgeon, ‘not a thing’ is the natural ozempic. He wrote, “If you have been browsing through your social media accounts you must have come across the following statements: 1. Consume this traditional grain and lower your weight like a GLP 1 receptor agonist. 2. This is a special tea that is similar to ozempic.” According to Dr Karan, all these claims are irrelevant and there is no ingredient that can emulate the function of a weight loss drug. Why it is inaccurate and misleading to talk about natural ozempic a lot of people are not aware of The real thing is that ozempic is a lab-made pharmaceutical that exactly targets GLP 1 receptors and remains effective for several days. “No food, no herb, no ancient root growing from the holy ground of the Instagram wellness page can duplicate this,” he added. “Of course, some foods can increase the release of GLP-1 in the human body but the impact is as small as a sparkler compared to a firework display,” he explained. According to the doctor, foods are a quick flicker of GLP-1, which lasts only for a few minutes to several hours. However, ozempic or any other weight loss drug is a ‘sustained hormonal symphony, playing non-stop in the background. The science At the end of the day, Dr Rajan explained how foods help in feeling full but not as ozempic does. “Fibre, particularly soluble fibre, is broken down by the gut microbiota into short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) including butyrate. Mucus cells in the intestine are stimulated by SCFAs to release hormone that helps in feeling full including GLP 1, PYY and CCK,” he added. Nevertheless, the impact is small, and the suppression of appetite that is seen with drugs like ozempic is not seen with foods. Some of these food items are oats, lentils, chia seeds, flax seeds, apples etc. “‘It does the same with protein…’ Protein also increases the release of PYY and GLP-1 and also decreases the level of ghrelin, the hormone that stimulates hunger,” he said. These food items are lean meats, eggs, Greek yoghurt, tofu, legumes and more. Dr Rajan continued, “People love the control of thinking that the right smoothie can lead to the metabolic heaven. However, biology does not function that way. You can’t out-fibre a GLP 1 receptor agonist.” “It is a drug. It is not broccoli. No amount of chia seeds will replace pharmacology. Unless you can make your pancreas become a pharmaceutical company.”></quote> Note to readers: This article is meant to provide information and not for the purpose of prescribing any treatment or advice on a given condition. A doctor emphasized that ozempic, a lab-engineered drug, effectively activates GLP-1 receptors for weight loss, unlike foods that offer only temporary effects.
